In a bid to win back customers JD Wetherspoon have produced a rather deceiving poster claiming that their beer prices have fallen due to a reduction in VAT to 5%.

The fact of the matter is that no pub can do this, the VAT reductions announced by the Government last week only apply to food served in pubs.

The posters also display the CAMRA and SIBA logos, in reaction both CAMRA and SIBA (The Society of Independent Brewers) have issued a statement distancing them from the ‘promotion’ and pointing out the facts.

The sad thing is that our local independent pubs that do not serve food are not able to take advantage of the reduction in VAT and will continue to struggle when and, more importantly, if they re-open.

At Leicester Beer Week we urge everyone to support our Local Pubs, Breweries and Cider makers. Please do not expect lower beer prices as these people need that little added extra from VAT reduction to help make a profit and keep the lights on. CAMRA Members, keep you card in your wallet and forget the discount, at least for a while.
