Responding to a viewer question on Sky News Matt Hancock gave some hope that some pubs may soon be allowed to reopen. But only if they have an outside space where customers can drink or eat.

His response was “The business secretary is working on the rules for safe working so, when we get the rate of new infections down, we can work on how people can get back to work as safely as possible. And we are going to say more about that very shortly. We’re very careful to follow the clinical advice on the two-metre rule, but there’s also very strong evidence that outdoors the spread is much, much lower so there may be workarounds that some businesses, for instance cafes especially over the summer, might be able to put into place.”

With the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, due to make an announcement on Sunday we can only hope that there is some light at the end of this very dark tunnel for our pubs, bars and breweries.

Quite where this leaves all of the pubs without an outside space or those with a space in bad weather we are currently not sure.
